Dry Ice

Dry ice is the solid form of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). It is non-flammable, colourless, tasteless, odourless, bacteriostatic and sublimes at −78.5 °C without leaving residue. The cooling potential of a dry ice cube is 3.3 times as high as that of a water ice cube of the same size. These properties make it an extremely valuable refrigerant for chemical, technical and food industrial applications.

Some examples are:

  • Storage and transport frozen/chilled food
  • Chilling of food for air catering
  • Fast-chilling in laboratories
  • Smoke effect in theatres

To secure a safe handling and application of the dry ice, some rules have to be followed:

  • Do not eat dry ice or put it into drinks for chilling.
  • Wear gloves or use dry ice tongs when handling dry ice as dry ice is extremely cold and can causes frostbite.
  • Our dry ice is not of food grade quality so proper food packaging is needed.
  • Do not enter closed rooms where dry ice is stored before thorough ventilation.
  • Do not pack dry ice in gas tight container. The gas developed by the ambient heat involves explosion risks due to very high pressure developed.
